Southern Highlands Food Systems

MVIWATA with the support from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (FAO) through the Southern Highlands Food Systems project is organising and conducting trainings on Farming as Business to farmer leaders in 27 districts of six regions.
The list of districts involved in a project are:
Morogoro rural, Mvomero, Kilosa, Ulanga, Kilombero, Njombe, Ludewa,Makete, Mbeya rural, Kyela, Rungwe, Mbarali, Mbozi, Chunya, Ileje, Sumbawanga rural, Sumbawanga Municipal, Nkasi and Mpanda.
Others are Namtumbo, Tunduru, Songea Rural, Songae Urban, Mbinga, Iringa rural, Kilolo and Mufindi districts.

Objective of the project

The project aims at building the capacities of farmers leaders so that they can organize, advise and train other farmers in their respective villages on farming as business.
The targeted outcomes of this project are;
  1. Farmers to be able to develop business plan for their activities, determining production costs and selling price of their crops, things that they were not able to do before the training.
  2. Farmers to able to identify the opportunities and threats for their activities in their villages.
  3. Farmers to be able to select economic projects that could offer more profit in their villages basing on the available opportunities and threats.
